Letters Testamentary? Letters of Administration?

Often a person's first encounter with probate is when they go to the bank to close an account of a recently deceased relative. The bank's representative tells you that you need to provide Letters of Administration or Letters Testamentary before the bank can give you any information.
Letters of Administration is a document issued by the probate court to the Personal Representative (Executor) of the estate of a deceased person. It authorizes the Personal Representative to administer the estate and receive the decedent's assets for administration. You obtain Letters of Administration after your attorney prepares and files in court the pleadings to open a probate of the estate.
